“Patianna has a very good track record with this
unoaked variety. The ’08 is a very dry, very crisp
in citrusy acids, and complex, with
New Zealand style flavors of gooseberries,
white currants, minerals and geraniums
in addition to riper flavors of pineapples, limes
and sweet Meyer lemons”

A GREAT BOTTLE OF WINE
“A certified organic and biodynamically grown wine from a 126-acre property alongside the Russian River. The nose is fragrant citrus fruit, lemon lime, melon and just enough minerality and grassiness to make your mouth water. The finish is long and lean and will not allow just one glass. Food friendly and perfect with fillet of Sole, Asparagus, Scampi, or all by itself”

91 Points
“Patianna has been producing biodynamically-grown Sauvignon Blanc under the radar, and consumers really should discover it. The 2005 is quite as good as the '03, maybe better, a dry, crisp, elegantly balanced wine, with delicately unoaked citrus flavors. It's Sauvignons like this that are weaning wine lovers away from Chardonnay..”

Jay's Selections
"An excellent alternative to Chardonnay. Lean, crisp Sauv Blanc's are like super models, very attractive to the modern taste, but, well, lean. This Patianna brings to mind the beauties of the 40's, rounded, graceful and classy. Loaded with character and easy on the palate, this wine displays grass, light, ripe grapefruit, melon and citrus notes on a tropical background. Opens to loads of soft peach. Silken, with soft crispness on the edges. Picture Lauren Bacall in a freshly waxed drop-top Caddy. Could be habit forming. Made with organic grapes. "

2003 Sauvignon Blanc |
|
White Wine Of The Year
"As in the past, my "best white" and "best red" are qualified selections. I prefer they be from California (simply because that's where we are), are still in the market, offer exceptional value and tell a story.
The Patianna Organic Vineyards 2003 Mendocino Sauvignon Blanc ($16) does all that. For me, 2004 was the year sauvignon blanc secured its place as one of the friendlier and more versatile of white wines at the table.
Sauvignon Blanc is unusually adaptable with meals largely for its refreshing fruit, firm structure and zesty acidity, attributes the Patianna seizes with grace and balance. What's more, the wine is surprisingly luxurious for a Sauvignon Blanc. It approaches Chardonnay in the depth and roundness of its fruit without sacrificing any of Sauvignon Blanc's customary spunk. Patianna is a new label, and the people behind it are members of a small but growing community of California winegrowers dedicated to biodynamic farming. How much those techniques contributed to the wine's character is difficult to say, but the experiment will be fun to follow as Patianna releases more wines. "
